Erik Olssen Tribute Talk

Jim McAloon, Charlotte MacDonald and Jock Phillips speak about the impact and legacy of historian Erik Olssen, who died in July.

Erik's most recent work, The origins of an experimental society: New Zealand 1769-1860, was published by Auckland University Press, to critical acclaim, in 2025.

It came on the back of a lifetime of research and writing on New Zealand history.

Each speaker will recall the significance of Erik and his work for them personally, and for New Zealand history.
