About the event

You are warmly invited to the launch of Professor Annemarie Jutel’s The Tear Bottle: A Story of Loss and Things published by UBIQ.

This is a book about the objects families covet as a way of holding on to their past. A graphic memoir with serious intent, its simple drawings invite readers to think about their family histories. Is it really our heirlooms, or the stories we tell about them that help us to understand ourselves, our whānau and what matters to us?

Going through the belongings of a deceased relative--possessions of a lifetime--is hard work. By making light of the heavy problem of keeping and remembering, it provides its readers with a way to deal with, and tell stories about, the stuff that gets left behind.

Tim Corballis will be speaking at the event. Tim is a novelist, essayist and art writer based in Wellington. He is the author of five novels through Victoria University Press: Our Future is in the Air (2017), R.H.I. (2015), The Fossil Pits (2005), Measurement (2002), and Below (2001).
